Welcome back to the Travel Diaries, where I share my personal journey through the musical project TRAVELER, giving insights to the 24 songs of this project. In this episode, we dive into the story behind the third song of the project, titled „Oh Oh O!“ a.k.a „Looking for Distribution“. This catchy tune holds a deeper meaning and reflects a significant chapter in my life. Join me as we explore the origins of this song and its underlying message.

It was a scorching day in July 2019 when my friend Pat and I found ourselves strolling through the bustling streets of Manhattan. At that time, my debut album was on the verge of release, and I had secured a distribution deal for Austria. However, I yearned for an exclusive distribution deal in the United States, which would be a significant milestone for my career.

As we walked, frustration began to brew within me. I couldn’t help but express my exasperation to Pat, blurting out, „Come on! I’m just looking for distribution!“ Little did I know that this moment of venting would become the catalyst for something greater. Pat, with his creative spirit, started inventing a melody right then and there, singing the words, „Looking for a distribution!“ It was an unexpected burst of inspiration amidst the heat and chaos of the city.

Fast forward to the year 2021 when I wrote and finalized the 24 songs for TRAVELER, and that impromptu lyric idea has evolved into the song „Oh Oh Oh! (Looking for Distribution)“ earning its rightful place on the TRAVELER record. The lyrics tell the story of a rockstar living a life of excess—endless parties, adoring fans, and a whirlwind of alcohol-soaked nights. But beneath the glitz and glamour, a profound loneliness resides. The rockstar longs for something more—a genuine connection, true love.

“Oh Oh Oh! (Looking for Distribution)” – the third of twenty-four songs came out on June 30th, 2023.

While „Oh Oh Oh! (Looking for Distribution)“ captures the essence of American classic rock with its upbeat tempo, Mixolydian twists, and witty lyrics, there lies a profound tragedy beneath the surface. The song’s jovial façade masks the internal struggles of a man who appears to have it all but craves something deeper and more meaningful. In many ways, this narrative echoes my own experiences and visions during my younger years.

The allegorical nature of the song draws parallels between the pursuit of distribution in the music industry and the search for love. Both quests involve seeking validation, connection, and a sense of belonging. The last chorus of the song reveals the underlying truth—that amidst all the glimmers of fame and superficial allure, the rockstar’s ultimate desire is to find love.

As I reflect on my own journey, I can relate to the central character of the song. There was a time when I craved attention and yearned for recognition. I indulged in excesses, surrounded myself with shallow acquaintances, and dreamed of becoming a rockstar. Yet, deep down, I felt a profound sense of loneliness. „Oh Oh Oh!“ serves as a reminder of that chapter in my life and the transformative power of self-discovery.

“Drowned myself in Tequila

Deep down I had to be alone.”

„Oh Oh Oh!“ is more than just a catchy rock song; it represents a personal and artistic evolution. This episode of the „Travel Diaries“ has allowed us to explore the origins and meaning behind the song, as well as glimpse into the emotions and experiences that have shaped me as an artist.

Stay tuned for more episodes, as we continue to unravel the musical tapestry of TRAVELER and delve into the depths of my creative journey. Until next time, keep exploring, keep creating, and keep searching for the truest forms of expression.

PS: I thought I’ll add some personal notes at the end of each blog post, giving a short insight into my own journey right now. So, here it is:

My current diary pages (June 2023)

  • After a so-called motivation low (shame on me for even bothering dealing with something profane like that) I am back at working out and meditating again. Sometimes I wish I was a tougher guy.
  • Musically speaking, the third live show with Jannis Raptis & His Fellow Travelers was awesome! But I’ve learned one thing for good now: Never play on a Monday in Vienna.
  • The second lyric video is on YouTube!
  • My long-distance relationship has ended! I just helped my partner moving back from Greece to Austria, we had like 6 suitcases to carry, I’m so glad this chapter of our lives is over.
  • I really need to cut sugar again. I can feel its demonic impact on my innocent soul.

You like what you see and hear? Or you hate it, but for whatever reason, you still want to buy me a cup of coffee? I highly appreciate this!
